The AI Canvas is where you set up a growth play with the agent. You describe your goal in the chat, and the canvas shows the objects the play uses, such as listeners, segments, dialogues, and connections, and how data moves between them. The AI Canvas in BlueConic keeps a growth play readable as it grows, so you can see its structure and spot what needs attention without opening every object.
The AI Canvas helps you:
Follow which object the agent is talking about.
See what data moves along each connection.
Group related objects the way you think about your marketing.
Find objects and spot the ones that need attention on a large canvas.
Before you begin
The AI Canvas is part of Growth Plays. See Growth Plays overview.
For how the agent sets up a growth play, proposes a plan, and uses your data, see Growth Play Agents.
Start from LaunchPad to carry your business goal into the canvas conversation.
Set up a growth play from your goal
Open a growth play. Setup starts with the goal: the agent shows the growth play's primary metric, suggests a realistic target and target period, and explains why.
Review the outcome the agent creates. Link campaign IDs now or later; you don't need them to finish setup.
Review the plan. Before it changes anything, the agent proposes a plan in plain language. Check the settings behind it, then approve or edit the plan once. The agent completes the steps and asks you only when a business decision comes up.
The agent checks your existing objects before it proposes new ones, and tells you which object it reuses and why. Before it recommends a profile property, it checks how many profiles have a value for it and warns you when very few do. Before it builds a value filter, the Segment Agent looks at the values a property actually holds. The agent doesn't read values from properties flagged as personally identifiable information (PII), and it shows value counts only to users allowed to see exact statistics.
Work with the agent on the canvas
When the agent asks about an object, the canvas moves to it and gives it a soft blue glow. The glow follows the conversation from object to object. With reduced motion turned on, the canvas doesn't animate the move.
Connect Meta from the chat
When the growth play needs a Meta connection, the agent opens the Meta sign-in page from the chat. After you sign in, you return to the canvas and the conversation continues. Other connections follow where their platforms support it.
Download the chat
To save the conversation as a Markdown file, open the menu at the top of the chat and select Download chat.
See what a connection carries
Hover over a connection line, or tab to it, to see what it carries:
Segments, with audience size when available
Profile properties
When a connection carries no customer data, the tooltip says so.
Organize the canvas with groups
Group the objects in a column the way you think about your marketing, for example all paid social audiences in one group. Groups are saved with the growth play, so everyone working on it sees the same grouping. Whether a group is open or closed is your own view.
Let the agent propose groups
Ask the agent to group the canvas, or accept its suggestion.
Review the proposal in the conversation. It lists each group and its members.
Rename groups as needed, then apply or discard the whole proposal.
When you already grouped objects yourself, the agent proposes a new grouping instead of overwriting yours.
Create a group
Select objects with Shift-click, or drag a selection box around them.
Right-click and select Group selection, or Add to an existing group.
A new group starts collapsed.
Manage groups
To move an object to another group or out of a group, right-click it and select Move to, or drag it.
To rename, ungroup, or move a group, right-click it and select Rename, Ungroup, or Move to.
To rename a group quickly, double-click its name.

Read a large canvas
Detail adapts to the space
For each column, the canvas picks the level of detail from the available height and your zoom level:
Full cards
Tighter cards
Groups with their members
Collapsed groups, shown as a stack with the member count in the title
A compact row of icons
A group you open or close yourself stays that way.
Open a group
An open group shows up to five members, with the ones that need attention first. Select Show all to expand it in place.
Highlight a path
Hover over an object to highlight its path and fade the rest of the canvas:
Source: the path downstream
Activation: the path upstream
Segment: the path in both directions
Search and filter
Use search and the needs-attention filter in the canvas toolbar, next to the zoom controls. Matching objects stay visible, the rest fade, and the canvas zooms to the matches.
Group status
A group shows a status only when all its members share it. Otherwise, it shows how many members need attention.
Bundles
Dialogues and connection export goals that use the same segment and sit next to each other in the Activate column appear as one bundle with one add button. Each item stays its own object. Change the card order to change what's bundled.
Next steps
Decide which of your existing objects belong together, and group them before you share the growth play with your team.
Set up outcome measurement for the growth play. See Outcome measurement overview.
FAQ
Can a group span columns or contain other groups?
No. A group holds at least two objects and stays within one column. Groups don't nest, and the Unify column can't be grouped.
Do new objects join a group automatically?
No. A new object lands outside any group. There are no rule-based groups.
What happens when two people change the grouping at the same time?
The last save wins.
Why doesn't a group show a total profile count?
Segments overlap, so a group shows how many members it has instead. There are no bulk actions on group members.
Why doesn't my segment show a status?
Status comes from what BlueConic records per object. A segment has no status of its own, and a listener is only active or inactive.
Why isn't a bundle showing?
Bundling covers adjacent dialogues and connection export goals only. When the objects are in a group you created, the group takes over and the bundle isn't shown.
