Growth Plays Overview

Updated today

Growth Plays represent a fundamental shift in how BlueConic delivers value. For years, putting customer data to work meant assembling the pieces yourself — building segments, connecting channels, designing journeys, and hoping the outcome followed. The intelligence was yours to supply. The platform stored and delivered; the strategy was on you.

Growth Plays change that model entirely. A Growth Play is an outcome-first workflow built around a specific business objective — recovering abandoned carts, accelerating first purchases, reducing churn, and growing loyalty tier participation. You start by defining what you want to achieve. BlueConic organizes the data, audiences, activation logic, and measurement framework around that goal. Over time, AI agents handle the decisioning, optimization, and closed-loop learning as the play runs.

Each play brings together data collection, identity resolution, audience segmentation, channel activation, and performance measurement in a single connected experience.

The result: your team moves from strategy to execution faster, with a clearer line of sight from customer data to measurable revenue outcomes.

What is a Growth Play?

A Growth Play is a pre-defined, outcome-focused use case in BlueConic.

Each Growth Play is built around a specific business objective, such as cart abandonment recovery, first-purchase acceleration, or loyalty tier progression. Rather than building the use case from scratch, you start from a structured template designed around best practices.

This approach helps your team:

  • Focus on the outcome you want to drive,

  • start from a proven implementation framework,

  • understand how the use case works end-to-end, and

  • launch more efficiently with guided support

Growth Plays are designed for teams that want a clearer and more structured path from customer data to action.

Available Growth Plays

Growth Plays address every stage in the customer lifecycle. Each play is designed to help you implement a specific outcome using a structured, best-practice approach.

Growth Play

Description

Lookalike audience expansion

Identify what your best customers have in common and activate those insights in advertising platforms to find similar prospects. This helps improve acquisition quality by focusing on high-value audiences.

Intent-based targeting

Detect visitors with strong purchase intent and activate them in paid media channels for more effective retargeting. This play also helps ensure customers are suppressed from campaigns once they convert.

First-purchase acceleration

Target engaged non-buyers with relevant interventions to help convert them into first-time customers. This can include onsite messaging, product recommendations, or retargeting.

Abandoned Cart recovery

Identify shoppers who leave without completing a purchase and trigger recovery actions to bring them back. This play focuses on improving recovery rates while avoiding unnecessary follow-up after purchase.

Order value expansion

Increase order value by recommending complementary products, bundles, or upgrades during the shopping experience. The goal is to grow basket size with relevant, timely suggestions.

Smart replenishment and upselling

Reach customers when they are likely ready to repurchase and encourage repeat purchases. This play can also support upsell opportunities and adapt to product availability.

Progressive Profiling

Convert anonymous visitors into known profiles and progressively enrich them with preference and consent data. This play helps grow your addressable audience and improve downstream targeting.

Customer Drop-off Prediction

Identify customers who are at risk of disengaging and take action before they lapse. This play helps reduce churn by targeting early signs of decline.

Dormant customer reactivation

Re-engage customers who have already become inactive by focusing on those most likely to return. This helps prioritize reactivation efforts and improve efficiency.

Loyalty program progression

Encourage customers to advance to the next loyalty tier by highlighting their progress and relevant incentives. This play helps increase engagement with your loyalty program.

Advocacy growth

Identify satisfied customers and prompt them to refer others at the right moment. This play helps turn existing customers into a source of new acquisition.
