Outcome measurement overview

Outcome measurement provides a reporting layer for growth plays in BlueConic. It combines performance data from connected advertising and marketing platforms with engagement data from BlueConic Dialogues. Use the Outcomes dashboard to track progress toward a target, review performance trends, and understand which touchpoints contributed to conversions.

Outcome measurement helps you:

  • Track impressions, views, clicks, spend, conversions, conversion value, and return on ad spend (ROAS).

  • Compare results across platforms, campaigns, dialogues, and dialogue variants.

  • Monitor progress toward a primary metric target.

  • Review BlueConic-observed and last-touch attributed conversions.

  • Check outcome health and request recommendations from Growth Play agents.

Supported growth plays and data sources

Outcome measurement supports these growth plays:

  • Intent-based media targeting

  • Look-alike audience expansion

  • Abandoned Cart Recovery

Outcome measurement reports data from:

  • Google Ads

  • Meta Ads

  • Klaviyo

  • BlueConic Dialogues

Available data sources and metrics depend on the growth play. Dialogue reporting is available for Intent-based media targeting and Look-alike audience expansion. Recovery rate is available for Abandoned Cart Recovery.

Before you begin

Complete the requirements for the data sources used by your growth play.

For connected advertising and marketing platforms:

  • Configure the supported platform connections in BlueConic.

  • Grant the required reporting permissions in each platform.

  • Confirm that the linked campaigns are active and generating reporting data.

  • For BlueConic-observed conversions from Google Ads, set the Google Ads Final URL Suffix to utm_id={campaignid}. Google Ads does not add this parameter by default. BlueConic uses the parameter to match a website visit to a campaign.

For BlueConic Dialogues:

  • Use the dialogue in a canvas associated with the growth play.

  • Configure the conversion event for the growth play and outcome. Outcome measurement currently uses the Order event.

  • Do not add an advertising connection or UTM parameter for dialogue reporting.

Note: Outcome measurement does not use conversion settings from the Dialogue Why tab. Dialogue-level conversion reporting remains separate.

Open and configure outcome measurement

Open outcome measurement

  1. Open a growth play in BlueConic.

  2. Select the Outcomes tab.

The Outcomes dashboard displays the configured target, reporting period, KPI cards, performance chart, and breakdown table.

Configure an outcome

  1. Select Edit on the Outcomes tab.

  2. Enter an outcome name.

  3. Optional: Enter a description.

  4. Enter a target value.

  5. Select a monthly or quarterly target period.

  6. For external platforms, add one or more campaign IDs. Dialogues used by the growth play are included through their canvas association and do not require a campaign ID.

  7. Select Save.

Note: A dialogue must be associated with the growth play through a canvas before outcome measurement includes its data.

Review outcome performance

Review the dashboard from top to bottom. The target section uses the current target period. The KPI cards, performance chart, and breakdown table use the reporting period selected on the dashboard.

Review target progress

The target section compares actual progress with the pace required to reach the primary metric target by the end of the monthly or quarterly target period.

The section displays:

  • The primary metric

  • The configured target value

  • Current progress

  • The number of days elapsed in the target period

  • Actual performance and target pace over time

BlueConic calculates progress from the campaigns and dialogues associated with the outcome. For example, a monthly conversion-value target of 50,000 displays the percentage achieved from their combined performance.

Hover over a chart point to review:

  • The daily actual value

  • Cumulative actual performance

  • The target pace for the selected date

Select a reporting period

Use the reporting-period dropdown to select:

  • Current month

  • Current quarter

  • Custom period

For a custom period, select a start date and end date. The dashboard updates the KPI cards, performance chart, and breakdown table for the selected period. The target section remains anchored to the current monthly or quarterly target period.

Review KPI cards

KPI cards summarize performance for the selected reporting period. Available cards depend on the growth play, data source, and selected metrics.

Platform-reported KPI cards include:

  • Impressions

  • Clicks

  • Spend

  • Conversions

  • Conversion value

BlueConic-measured KPI cards include observed and last-touch metrics such as:

  • Conversions

  • Conversion value

  • ROAS

  • Revenue per click (RPC)

  • Cost per conversion

Recovery rate for Abandoned Cart Recovery

Recovery rate is available for the Abandoned Cart Recovery growth play. BlueConic divides recovered orders by cart abandonment events.

A recovered order is the first order placed within 48 hours after a cart abandonment event. A newly measured outcome might take up to 48 hours to display a complete recovery rate.

Review performance over time

The Performance over time chart plots daily metric values across the selected reporting period. Use the chart to identify increases, decreases, and fluctuations that aggregated KPI values do not show.

The primary metric is selected by default. Select one additional metric from the metric filter to compare two metrics. Each selected metric uses a labeled and correctly formatted Y-axis.

Hover over the chart to review the selected metric values for a date.

Keep in mind

  • The chart supports daily values only.

  • The chart displays a maximum of two metrics.

  • The chart uses the selected reporting period, while the target section uses the current target period.

  • The chart does not break results down by platform, audience type, or growth play.

  • The chart does not display a cumulative view or target reference line.

  • A period without reporting data displays No data available for this period.

  • A loading failure displays Something went wrong loading this chart. Please try again.

  • A new growth play without reporting data displays the standard new-play empty state instead of the chart.

Review the breakdown table

The breakdown table organizes reporting data in this hierarchy:

  1. Platform

  2. Campaign or dialogue

  3. Dialogue variant, where supported

Rows are collapsed by default. Expand a platform, campaign, or dialogue to review detailed results. The total row combines eligible data from all linked campaigns and associated dialogues.

For an existing dialogue, select the dialogue name to open its configuration. When someone deletes a dialogue, the saved name remains visible as plain text.

Dialogue engagement metrics

The dialogue breakdown includes:

  • Views: Total dialogue views during the selected reporting period. Repeat views count toward the total.

  • Unique views: Profiles whose first recorded view of the dialogue occurred during the selected reporting period.

  • Clicks: Total dialogue clicks during the selected reporting period. Repeat clicks count toward the total.

  • Unique clicks: Profiles whose first recorded click on the dialogue occurred during the selected reporting period.

  • BlueConic-observed conversion metrics

  • Last-touch attributed conversion metrics, when eligible

  • Variant-level results, where supported

Dialogue clicks contribute to the aggregated Clicks metric. Dialogue views populate Views and do not count as impressions.

Unique metric limitation: Unique views and unique clicks represent first-ever recorded interactions. A profile whose first interaction occurred before the reporting period does not count as unique after another interaction during the period. BlueConic does not aggregate unique metrics at the outcome level because one profile might interact with several dialogues in the same growth play.

Shared campaigns and dialogues

A campaign or dialogue associated with several growth plays does not qualify for last-touch attribution while shared. Engagement metrics and BlueConic-observed conversions still appear for every associated growth play.

Customize displayed metrics

  1. Select the filter icon in the breakdown section.

  2. Select or clear metrics.

The table updates immediately. The filter groups metrics as:

  • Platform

  • BlueConic last-touch

  • BlueConic-observed

Available metrics include:

  • Impressions

  • Views

  • Unique views

  • Clicks

  • Unique clicks

  • Spend

  • Conversions

  • Conversion value

  • Click-through rate (CTR)

  • Cost per 1,000 impressions (CPM)

  • Cost per click (CPC)

  • ROAS

  • RPC

  • Cost per conversion

Understand conversion measurement and attribution

The Outcomes dashboard displays platform-reported metrics alongside two measurements from BlueConic:

  • BlueConic-observed: Measures conversions from profiles touched by the growth play.

  • BlueConic last-touch: Credits each conversion to one eligible growth play.

BlueConic-observed conversions

BlueConic-observed conversions measure orders and revenue from profiles with a qualifying growth play touchpoint during the attribution window.

Qualifying touchpoints include:

  • A Campaign Visit event recorded from a matching campaign ID

  • A Dialogue Click event associated with the growth play through a canvas

For campaign visits, BlueConic matches utm_id instead of utm_campaign. Campaign IDs remain stable when campaign names change.

BlueConic-observed conversions measure cohort performance and do not assign exclusive credit to one growth play. The same order might appear in several growth plays or outcomes when a profile has qualifying touchpoints from each one. Review each outcome separately instead of adding the totals together.

BlueConic-observed metrics appear at:

  • Outcome level: Total observed conversions, conversion value, ROAS, and RPC across the growth play

  • Breakdown level: Observed conversions, conversion value, ROAS, RPC, and cost per conversion for each campaign or dialogue

Variant-level results appear for dialogues where supported.

Last-touch attributed conversions

Last-touch attribution credits each conversion to one eligible growth play. BlueConic compares qualifying Campaign Visit and Dialogue Click events before the conversion and credits the growth play associated with the most recent eligible touchpoint.

A touchpoint associated with one growth play qualifies for last-touch attribution. A campaign or dialogue associated with several growth plays does not qualify while shared.

Last-touch metrics appear at the outcome level and in the breakdown table.

Dialogue attribution details

  • Click-through only: A dialogue view without a click does not qualify for attribution.

  • Historical association: BlueConic records the growth play association when the click occurs. Later canvas changes do not affect earlier clicks.

  • Timeline retention: Attribution depends on the Dialogue Click event remaining on the profile timeline. Events no longer retained within the attribution window are excluded.

  • Campaign Visit events: The same timeline-retention limitation applies to Campaign Visit events.

Use Growth Monitor and Growth Advisor

Check outcome status with Growth Monitor

Growth Monitor evaluates an outcome against its target every day. The status follows consistent calculation rules, while a plain-language summary explains the result.

Status

BlueConic projects the primary metric value at the end of the target period and compares the projection with the target:

  • On track: Projected to reach at least 95% of the target

  • At risk: Projected to reach 85% to 95% of the target

  • Off track: Projected to reach less than 85% of the target

  • No target: No target is configured. Trend information still appears.

  • No data: A target is configured, but reporting data is insufficient for a projection.

  • Activity stopped: Reporting from connected campaigns stopped while the target period remains open.

  • Error: Reported values are inconsistent. For example, conversions exceed clicks.

Trend

Trend compares the current pace with the same point in the previous target period:

  • Higher: More than 10% faster than the previous period

  • Similar: Within 10% of the previous period

  • Lower: More than 10% slower than the previous period

Note: Trend does not appear without a comparable prior period or when the status is No data, Activity stopped, or Error.

AI summary and second opinion

Growth Monitor also provides:

  • A short explanation of current performance

  • An independent AI assessment with a Low, Medium, or High confidence level

  • Agreement or disagreement with the calculated status

  • Expandable evidence supporting the result

The status badge remains rule-based. The AI assessment explains the result and provides a second opinion without determining the status.

Get recommendations with Growth Advisor

Growth Advisor recommends actions for a growth play already running. This agent differs from the Advisor Agent in Growth Play Agents, which recommends a growth play to launch.

Growth Advisor starts with:

  • The outcome target

  • Linked campaigns

  • The latest Growth Monitor result

The agent retrieves more detail when needed, including monitor history, campaign performance, and daily trends. Each recommendation is checked against the available evidence. Growth Advisor revises unsupported recommendations or explains when the data is insufficient.

Ask questions such as:

  • Why is this outcome off track?

  • Which campaigns are reducing performance?

  • Where should I shift budget?

Note: Growth Advisor provides recommendations and does not change configurations in advertising platforms. Newly launched growth plays have less measured history, which limits recommendation detail.

Next steps

  • Confirm that each external connection and campaign ID is reporting data.

  • Confirm that each dialogue is associated with the growth play through a canvas.

  • Review target progress, KPI cards, performance trends, and breakdown details for the selected period.

  • Use Growth Monitor and Growth Advisor to investigate outcomes marked At risk or Off track.

  • Review Growth Play Agents for agent configuration guidance.
