Group properties data processor

In select BlueConic connections, you can use the Group properties data processor to export group data in combination with profile data. When there are multiple groups assigned to the profile, you can choose to have this on different lines in the export.

Adding this data processor to your tenant

By default, this plugin is not installed in BlueConic. To install, navigate to BlueConic settings > Plugins, click the Add plugin button at the top right, and register the external URL below.

Adding this data processor to a connection

All connections that support data processors have a step on its export goal page to add data processors (e.g., "Modify your data before the export"). In that step, use the search box to add "Group properties"; once added, it appears in a numbered list of data processors activated for that connection.

Configuring this data processor

The Group properties data processor requires some configuration to ensure that BlueConic exports the data as specified. To make these configurations, click the cogwheel icon next to "Group properties" in the numbered list of data processors. This opens a window with the following settings:

  • Group type: Select the group type you would like to export.
  • Group ID property: Select the profile property used for the group ID.
  • Export only matching groups (optional): When enabled, only groups that match according to the group filters in the segment definition are exported. When there are no group filters, all groups are exported.
  • Export multi-group profiles as separate rows (optional): When enabled, profiles that are members of multiple groups will be exported as multiple rows, one row for each membership that contains that membership's group property values. By default, profiles that are members of multiple groups are exported to a single row that contains all group property values.
  • Click OK to save your settings.

Sample scenario for using this data processor

Assume that data about a customer’s pet(s) is stored in groups. We want to export that information with the profile to target customers with a dog, using the dog’s name for personalization.

The dog owner segment may look something like this:

The export segment and the connection export goal are about profiles and not about groups. However, using the group properties data processor we can get access to the group data for the groups attached to the profiles.

Data Processor Setting Configuration
Group type Pet
Group ID property Pets

By selecting the group type “Pet”, BlueConic will look for profile properties which have a reference to the group type “Pet.” Then, this data processor will add any related group properties as data points that can be selected for mapping.

In the scenario pictured above, the export result will be a CSV file with one column for email addresses and another column for pet names. Depending on the capabilities of the system using this feed, it might be fine to offer it as comma separated. However, if it is required to format each data point on separate lines, select the “Export multi-group profiles as separate rows” option in the data processor configuration.

However, we want to target customers with a dog specifically, and the above configuration is only accounting for pets in general. Therefore, anyone with other types of pets should be excluded from this export. That is where the “Export only matching groups” setting comes into play. When this option is enabled, only the groups which lead to a positive outcome of the segment evaluation are exported.
