How to use the Visual Website Optimizer Connection in BlueConic with customer segmentation?

What: The Visual Website Optimizer connection allows you to share BlueConic segmentation information with Visual Website Optimizer.

Why: By using BlueConic's unique behavioral data collection engine and segmentation capabilities, you can enable highly relevant programs in Visual Website Optimizer.

About BlueConic: The BlueConic customer data platform harnesses the data required to power the recognition of an individual at each interaction, and then synchronizes their intent across the marketing ecosystem.

Configuring the VWO Connection requires settings both on the BlueConic side and the VWO side, as explained below.

Configuring the BlueConic connection

Configuration takes the following options:

How to share customer segments and customer profile data with BlueConic and Visual Website Optimizer

Cookie name

Enter the name of the of the cookie in which BlueConic will keep track of which segments the visitor belongs to. This allows you to have connections with different cookie names for different VWO experiments.

Segments

Select the BlueConic segments that you want to share with Visual Website Optimizer. BlueConic will keep track of which segments in this list the visitor belongs to and update the value of a cookie named "bcVWOCookie" accordingly.

VWO experiments

Enter the campaign id (without "#") that can be inspected in Visual Website Optimizer in "Campaigns > Settings > Summary", at the bottom of the page:

Configuring Visual Website Optimizer

To configure the VWO side of the connection, open VWO and navigate to "Campaigns > Settings > Targets".

How to configure a connection between Visual Website Optimizer and BlueConic customer segments

Here you can configure the settings for the Variations:

  • Choose "Custom"
  • Select "COOKIE VALUE" and enter the name of the cookie that BlueConic sets: bcVWOCookie
  • Select the filter "CONTAINS" and enter the name of the segment that you want to filter on. The cookie can contain multiple segment names, hence the use of "CONTAINS".
  • If you want to filter on multiple segments, use "AND" or "OR".

Hover over a mapping and click the delete icon on the right to delete it.

 

Privacy management

Connections can be added to Objectives, allowing for privacy management of the information that is being picked up. A connection will only process the profiles of visitors who have consented to at least one of the objectives that the connection is linked to.
