What: The Optimizely X connection allows you to export data to Optimizely X.
About BlueConic: The BlueConic customer data platform harnesses the data required to power the recognition of an individual at each interaction and then synchronizes their intent across the marketing ecosystem.
Why: Some test results will be more meaningful when the audience is targeted, instead of testing against a random sample of all users. BlueConic can add another layer of rich behavioral data to Optimizely's existing audience-building capabilities.
Note: For this connection to work, you must have set up the Optimizely X tag on your pages. Additionally, the option "Expose the segments that the visitor is part of" on the Privacy Settings tab in BlueConic must be enabled.
Adding an Optimizely X connection
- Click Connections in the Navigation bar.
- Click Add Connection.
- A pop-up window appears. Check the Show all box. Enter "Optimizely X" in the Search bar. Click Optimizely X connection.
- The Optimizely X connection page opens.
You can expand or collapse metadata fields (favorite, labels, and description) by clicking the gray chevron at the top of the page.
Configuring the connection
Define channels: In the Set up page, define the BlueConic channels where you want this connection to be active. Optional: You can specify a limited set of channels and URLs for the connection to be active.
Data exchange: This shows the total number of unique profiles that have been exported via the connection. Note that these are unique profiles - if the same profile is exported multiple times, it is counted as 1.
To make the connection work, you have to add at least one export goal and switch the connection on. In the export goal you can specify howBlueConic data should be mapped to data from Optimizely X.
Creating an export goal
Click the Add goal button to create an export goal.
- Select a BlueConic segment for the export.
Only profiles in this segment with a value for one of the selected profile properties in step 2 are exported. In the top right-hand corner, the number of profiles available for export appears.
This number shows how many profiles meet the conditions for the selected segment (for example, they have an email address and gave required consent for an objective) and therefore are available for the export. BlueConic tries to export only the profiles that have changed since the last export. This number of profiles exported may be lower than the number displayed here. - Map BlueConic data to Optimizely X.
Note that to be able to export viewed interactions and segment memberships, you need to check both “External analytics” checkboxes on the BlueConic Settings > Privacy tab.
Click Add mapping to add a new mapping rule, or click Add multiple mappings to add a number of rules for properties.
Click the BlueConic icon to open a drop-down menu where you can select the type of information you want to export. Pick one of:
- BlueConic profile identifier: the unique identifier for a profile
- Associated segments: all segments, or a selection of one or more specific segments that the profile is associated with
- Profile property: the value of a specific profile property
- All viewed interactions (page view): the interactions that the profile has seen
- Permission level: the permission level set in the profile
-
Text value: enter any static text
Note that you can use the Add goal button create multiple export goals for this connection.
Connection status
Once you've set up and saved your connection, the icon at the top reflects the status of the connection. Profiles are exported to Optimizely X when they visit one of the channels selected in the setup page.
An arrow runs from BlueConic to Optimizely X, showing the direction of the data export. When the arrow is green, the connection is ready to be used.
In the Data exchange section of the Set up page, you can see the number of unique profiles that had data exported by the connection.
Privacy management
Connections can be added to Objectives, allowing for privacy management of the information that is being picked up. A connection will only process the profiles of visitors who have consented to at least one of the objectives that the connection is linked to.
In addition, to be able to export viewed interactions and segment memberships to Optimizely X, you need to make sure to check the below “External analytics” checkboxes at the BlueConic Settings > Privacy tab.
