Pinterest Ads Connection

Updated this week

What: The BlueConic Pinterest Advertising Connection allows you to enrich Pinterest with data from BlueConic to target audiences on Pinterest. You can export segment data for more effective digital advertising, and send BlueConic timeline events to Pinterest as conversion events via the Pinterest Conversions API (CAPI).

Why: By sending segmentation and user profile property data to Pinterest Ads, you can more effectively reach matched audiences with digital ads on Pinterest. Target any contact in your CRM with server-to-server sync. With this capability, you can stop targeting entire segments of visitors who aren't a good fit for your advertising campaigns. The Conversions API goal lets you measure store sales, website activity, and other customer actions to optimize ad campaign performance.

Export profile data to Pinterest events

Use this goal to send BlueConic timeline events to Pinterest as conversion events via the Pinterest Conversions API. This lets you measure store sales, website activity, and other customer actions, and optimize ad campaign performance using first-party data. Add a goal and select Export profile data to Pinterest events. Follow the steps in the goal to configure it.

Note: Before using this goal, be sure to read Pinterest's information about the Conversions API.

1. Select a BlueConic segment.

  1. Select the segment that contains the profiles you want to export. Only profiles in the selected segment are included.

2. Select the event date period.

  1. Choose which timeline events to include based on their date:

  • Export all events — Exports all timeline events regardless of date.

  • Export events since the last run — Exports only events since the last successful run. Use this for recurring incremental exports.

  • Export events from the last N days — Exports events from a rolling window. Enter the number of days in the field provided.

3. Select the action source.

  1. Choose where the conversion events originate from. This value is applied to all exported events. Options are Web, App (Android), App (iOS), and Offline.

4. Transform or filter your data before the export (optional).

Optionally add one or more Export Data Processors to transform or filter profile data before the export runs.

5. Link identifiers between BlueConic and Pinterest.

  1. Map BlueConic profile properties to Pinterest user matching fields to link profiles between the two systems. It's recommended to match by a unique identifier such as email address. You can also match by a combination of properties such as city, date of birth, and name.

  2. Select Add identifier to add a new mapping. To remove an identifier, delete the mapping row.

6. Export BlueConic profile data to Pinterest events.

Map BlueConic timeline events and their properties to Pinterest conversion events. Each mapping represents a Pinterest event type — such as checkout or add_to_cart — and the BlueConic event properties that populate it.

  1. Select Add Pinterest event mapping.

  2. Select the Pinterest event type.

  3. Select the BlueConic timeline event to map.

  4. Map individual event properties to Pinterest event fields. The event ID, event date/time, total revenue (value), currency, and order ID map automatically when available.

  5. To add more property mappings, select Add mapping. To expose additional Pinterest fields, select Add remaining [N] event properties to export.

  6. To add another event type, select Add Pinterest event mapping again.

Note: The connection automatically refreshes Pinterest OAuth tokens to ensure uninterrupted exports.

Note: The existing custom audience batch export and real-time pixel export goals are not affected by this change

Connection status

Once you've set up and saved your connection, the icon at the top will reflect the status of the connection.

What are the fundamentals of using BlueConic R89 with Pinterest?

A green arrow runs from BlueConic to Pinterest Ads, showing that data is being exported from BlueConic to Pinterest. When the arrow is green, the connection is ready to be used.

Data exchange shows you the total number of unique profiles that have been exported via the connection. Note that this shows the number of unique profiles available for export. Also, if the same profile is exported multiple times, it is counted as 1.

Privacy management

Connections can be added to Objectives, allowing for privacy management of the information that is being picked up. A connection will only process the profiles of visitors who have consented to at least one of the objectives that the connection is linked to.
