Welcome to our November product release updates. Lots of great new features and product enhancements are coming to BlueConic customers the week of November 18th!

Open-Time Email Recommendations

With BlueConic email recommendations, you can send dynamic content or product recommendations that automatically update when your customer opens their email. Use the Open-Time Email Recommendations feature to create a set of recommendations, paste the recommendations code (HTML) into your email template, and hit send. The email will update with up-to-the-minute recommendations the moment the email is opened, taking into account the user's actions since you hit send.

This feature produces HTML code you can deploy in any ESP you choose. Learn more about setting up dynamic email recommendations that update automatically in BlueConic.

New SAML-based SSO for BlueConic users

Single sign-on (SSO) offers BlueConic users the convenience of logging into BlueConic via an identity provider that controls access to other apps at your site. SSO identity providers such as OKTA, OneLogin, or Google G Suite let end users log in once and gain access to multiple applications. Now BlueConic administrators can enable SSO for all BlueConic users at their site.

Once SSO is enabled, users will no longer log in via the BlueConic login screen. They will log in one to your single sign-on identity provider, which will control access to BlueConic. Learn more about setting up SAML-based SSO for BlueConic users at your site.

Managing privacy for multiple legislation zones

BlueConic helps you comply with privacy regulations worldwide. With multiple privacy zones (i.e. GDPR covering Europe, CCPA in California, PIPEDA in Canada, SB220 for the state of Nevada, and the potential upcoming NYPA legislation in New York State), it gets complicated quickly.

In the BlueConic Privacy settings tab, you can set the default permission level for all website visitors and configure profile sharing between domains. Choose Settings > Privacy to open the Privacy settings tab.

You can use BlueConic Objectives to manage consent for multiple privacy zones. Use Objectives to ensure that content is shown only to profiles that have consented to the objective or are not covered by the relevant privacy legislation. New default Timeline event types

BlueConic provides several Timeline event types, which you can use to store customer events in a profile's Timeline. These event types are available by default:

  • Order event type
  • Email delivered event type
  • Email opened event type
  • Email link clicked event type
  • Abandoned basket event type
  • Order refund event type, with three statuses: refund requested, returned, refunded

You can import Timeline events via the SFTP connection, adding order data to default Timeline order events.

Segmenting profiles with BlueConic Group properties

New this month is the ability to segment based on both profile properties and group properties for households, accounts, companies, etc. You can segment based on a mix of profile and group properties, and also target someone based on the activities of others in the same group.

Defining customer segments using household properties

This example shows a customer segment with visitors from New York State who prefer to visit your site at night, and whose household email address is known.

Defining customer segments based on company properties

The next example shows how to define a BlueConic customer segment using both a profile property (gender) plus a group property (company size), to create a segment of profiles of women employed by small companies with fewer than 10 employees:

New detailed BlueConic usage metrics

You'll find added detail in your BlueConic usage metrics in the General Settings page. You can see your data operations, data storage, and profile counts in greater detail over time.

Starting with mid-November 2019, you can see in detail which data operations, traffic, or storage metrics are running high or low. Over time, you will gain a better sense for how your BlueConic metrics look from month to month. By December 2019, enough data will be visible to gauge typical monthly metrics, allowing you to take action if numbers run red (meaning you are out of compliance with your contract).
For metrics showing your data operations, data traffic, and data storage, clicking on the monthly metric opens a window with details showing how this number is composed.

SFTP Connection updates

The BlueConic SFTP Connection has a host of new features to make importing data via CSV easier and more useful than ever:

  • Added quotation marks as a new CSV file separator for SFTP Connection import goals.
In the advanced settings on the SFTP connection import goal page, you can specify a CSV file separator. If your CSV file has quotation marks around text, you can choose double quote " or single quote '. If your CSV file doesn't use quotation marks, you can clear the field to remove the default quote character.
  • New option to clear a profile property when importing data to BlueConic via SFTP.
We have added "Set or clear" as a new rule for importing data in addition to “Set”, “Set if empty”, “Add” and “Sum.” When you select "Set or clear," the value in the profile property will be cleared if the CSV contains no value.

  • Append a ".done" suffix to filenames of files successfully imported.
A new option in the advanced settings in SFTP file imports lets you add the suffix ".done" to files that are successfully imported, to help you easily see which files have been imported. Also, the connection will not import files that are already marked with the suffix ".done".

All the little things

  • Activity stream: On the BlueConic home screen, the Activity stream now shows when profiles are deleted.

Coming soon!
