Setting up Salesforce Marketing Cloud data integrations with BlueConic

Best practices for Salesforce CSV files to exchange customer data between Salesforce and your CDP with BlueConic When you set up a connection between Salesforce Marketing Cloud and BlueConic, you need to prepare your Salesforce Marketing Cloud environment for the connection. You can choose either to create data extensions and automations manually in Salesforce Marketing Cloud or to have BlueConic create them for you automatically.

Setting up Salesforce data to receive data imports from BlueConic

While setting up an import goal for this connection, you need to set up an automation in Salesforce Marketing Cloud. In step 5 of the import goal, you can choose to set it up manually.

Complete the following tasks to manually configure the file location and automation in Salesforce Marketing Cloud:

  • Define an FTP file location in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Enhanced FTP Export) from which BlueConic can import the CSV file.
  • Create a data extension in Salesforce Marketing Cloud that holds the data for the import.
  • Set up the CSV file in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (configure a data extract configuration via interactions). Enter your CSV file name in step 5 of the import goal.
  • Transport the CSV file to the selected file location (configure a file transfer via interactions).
  • Schedule the export automation (create an automation, via Journey Builder).
  • Create and schedule a new file transfer activity for the connection.

Setting permissions in Salesforce Marketing Cloud

When you are setting up a package in Salesforce Marketing Cloud to exchange data with BlueConic, you need to set several permissions in Salesforce Marketing Cloud:

  • Data extensions scope: Needs read and write permissions.
  • Automations scope: Needs read, write, and execute permissions.
  • File locations scope: Needs read and write permissions.

Setting up Salesforce Marketing Cloud for data exports from BlueConic

If you want to configure an export goal, in the BlueConic Salesforce Marketing Cloud connection, there are several steps you need to take in Salesforce Marketing Cloud to prepare your Salesforce import settings:

  • Define an FTP file location in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Enhanced FTP Export) to which BlueConic can export the data.

  • Set up an Import Definition in Salesforce Marketing Cloud that imports the data to the correct data extension.
  • Create a new Automation in Salesforce Marketing Cloud using a file drop as a starting source.
  • Use the CSV file name in BlueConic as file name pattern.
  • Add an Import Activity in the Automation in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
