AMP Listener

BlueConic-AMP-Listener.svgThe BlueConic AMP Listener enables you to listen to customer behavior on your Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) pages. Because the data collected is stored in a BlueConic profile property, you can use the information for segmentation, targeting, reporting, data activation, etc.

How does BlueConic work with AMP pages?

The AMP site that hosts your AMP pages does not run the BlueConic script, but you can use the BlueConic AMP listener to enable basic listening for (views and clicks) on your AMP pages. Here are some key steps for setting up AMP listening in BlueConic:

  • Add a code snippet to your AMP pages: When you set up an AMP listener in BlueConic, you copy a code snippet from the listener and paste it into your AMP pages.
  • Enable AMP analytics: Enable analytics and (optionally) geotagging in AMP.
  • Match the AMP client ID: If you configure both AMP and Google Analytics 4 to use the same identifier, BlueConic can connect web visitor profiles with AMP visitor profiles using that ID.
  • Default AMP values: See the list of default values the AMP listener collects.
  • Run one or more listeners: You can run one AMP listener with several rules to collect data or multiple separate listeners (and you copy and paste each listener's code snippet to your AMP pages).
  • External trackers: BlueConic uses tracking pixels to track views and clicks on AMP pages.

Setting up an AMP Listener in BlueConic

Creating an AMP Listener

  1. Select Listeners in the BlueConic navigation bar and click the green Add listener button.
  2. In the Add listener plugin gallery, search for AMP Listener.
  3. Click on the AMP Listener to create a new listener.
  4. Give it a name and save the listener.
Next, you'll configure the listener and get a code snippet to add to your AMP pages.

Configuring an AMP Listener

Once you've created a listener, you can configure the rules BlueConic uses to match customer IDs with Google Analytics, collect data, and store AMP views and clicks in customer profiles.

  1. Copy the generated script to paste the block of HTML code on your AMP site.

  2. Link the Google Analytics ID to a BlueConic cookie property.
Here you select or create a BlueConic profile property to match with the visitor's Google Analytics ID. When these IDs match, the customer data from AMP pages can be added to a visitor's existing BlueConic profile.
  3. Create rules to apply specific logic for the AMP listener.
BlueConic stores a set of values by default using the first rule. Click Add rule to create additional rules to add mappings for AMP page visits and AMP clicks.

Setting up a page visit rule: Choose whether to add a value, the visit date, or the page title/url/referrer. Then define the BlueConic profile property that will hold this value.

Setting up a click / tap rule: Choose whether to set or add a value, the visit date, or the page title/url/referrer. Then define the BlueConic profile property to hold this value.

  4. Select an attribution channel.
Here you can select one BlueConic channel to establish attribution for the views, clicks, or taps that occur on your AMP pages where this listener is active.

When you paste the HTML code snippet in your AMP pages, turn the Listener on and save your settings at the top of the page, the listener will be active on your AMP pages.

Default AMP values

When you set up an AMP Listener, BlueConic stores some data by default, including these profile properties:

  • AMP canonical URL
  • AMP client ID (unique identifier)
  • AMP geolocation (most recent/all)
  • AMP last visit date
  • AMP page title (all)
  • AMP page URL (all)
  • AMP user agent (most recent/all)
  • AMP views

You can optionally store this value as well:

  • AMP referrer

Tips for using the BlueConic AMP Listener

  • An attribution channel is required for tracking AMP visits. You can reuse an existing one or create a new one for AMP.
  • Each AMP listener you create results in an AMP configuration that you need to include in your pages. You may want to create multiple rules in one listener or multiple listeners.
  • You can include multiple AMP listeners in your AMP pages; this requires adding multiple code snippets to the pages.
  • BlueConic AMP configurations are cached, so changes you make to the listener may not take effect for 30 minutes.
