Mailigen Connection

How to use the Mailigen Connection with BlueConic

What: The Mailigen connection allows you to push lists for triggered emails, configure segmentation or profile properties to send to Mailigen as custom fields, and import Mailigen data about your users into BlueConic. The connection supports real time import and export.

About BlueConic: BlueConic is a Customer Data Platform that harnesses the data required to power the recognition of an individual at each interaction, and then synchronizes their intent across the marketing ecosystem.

Why: Interact with your email recipients with relevancy on-site, and in their inbox. By taking Mailigen data into BlueConic, you can individualize their experience on-site or in-app. By using BlueConic's unique behavioral data collection engine, you can enable a highly relevant email program for triggered emails and drip campaigns.

Adding a Mailigen connection

  1. Click Connections in the navigation bar.
  2. Click Add connection.
  3. A pop-up window appears. Check the Show all box. Enter "Mailigen" in the Search bar. Click Mailigen connection.
  4. The Mailigen connection page opens. You can expand or collapse metadata fields (favorite, labels, and description) by clicking the gray chevron at the top of the page.

Configuring a Mailigen connection

Set up and run

To exchange information between BlueConic and Mailigen, you have to provide an API key.

  1. Log in to Mailigen.
  2. Open the settings menu (cogwheel) and select API keys.
  3. Click Add key.
  4. Copy the API key.
  5. Open the Set up and run tab of the BlueConic connection.
  6. Paste the API key. BlueConic will verify and recognize the key and show that is it defined.

Import data into BlueConic

  1. Click Add goal and Import goal to add a new goal to import data into BlueConic.
  2. Select a BlueConic segment using the search bar.
  3. Select one or more profile properties as triggers. When the value for one of these properties changes in the profile of a visitor, it will trigger an import into BlueConic.
  4. Activate the checkboxes for Mailigen lists where matching subscribers can be found.
  5. Search the profile property that should match the email address of a Mailigen list subscriber.

  6. Map the data you want to import into BlueConic.

    Select a Mailigen field from the drop-down list and select the BlueConic profile property it populates by entering a search term.

    Select how to import the data from the drop-down list:

    • Set
    • Set if empty
    • Add the data field to the list of existing values
    • Sum a number with the existing values (if the data field is a number)
  7. Check the box by Import data into BlueConic in the left panel. A green arrow appears, going from the Mailigen icon to the BlueConic icon.

  8. Optional: In the left panel, click Add goal and then Import goal to create another Import goal.
  9. Click Save to store the configuration.

 

Export data into Mailigen

To create an export goal, click Add goal and Export goal.

  1. Select a BlueConic segment using the search bar.
  2. Select one or more profile properties as triggers. When the value for one of these properties changes in the profile of a visitor, it will trigger an export into Mailigen.
  3. Select Mailigen lists to export profiles to. These are the lists where matching subscribers can be found.
  4. Map identifiers between BlueConic and Mailigen by selecting the profile property that should match the email address of a Mailigen list subscriber.

  5. Map the data you want to export into Mailigen.

    Select a BlueConic profile property field from the drop-down list and select the BlueConic profile property it populates by entering a search term.

    Click the BlueConic icon to open a drop down menu where you can switch between the type of information you want to export. Pick one of:

    • BlueConic profile identifier: The unique identifier of the visitor profile
    • Profile property: The value of a specific profile property
    • Associated segments: All segments, or a selection of one or more specific segments that the profile is associated with (click the text to make the selection)
  6. Go over the advanced settings:
    • Select the type of email a subscriber should receive.
    • Select whether or not to send a new subscriber a confirmation email.
    • Select whether or not BlueConic is allowed to update the data of existing subscribers.
    • Select whether or not to send a welcome email to a new subscriber.
  7. Check the box by Export data into Mailigen in the left panel. A green arrow appears, going from the BlueConic icon to the Mailigen icon.

  8. Optional: In the left panel, click Add goal and then Export goal to create another Export goal.
  9. Click Save to store the configuration.

Unsubscribe Mailigen subscribers

  1. Click Add goal and Unsubscribe to add a new goal to unsubscribe subscribers from Mailigen lists.
  2. Select a BlueConic segment using the search bar.
  3. Select one or more profile properties as triggers. When the value for one of these properties changes in the profile of a visitor, it will trigger an export into Mailigen.
  4. Activate the checkboxes for Mailigen lists where matching subscribers can be found.
  5. Search the profile property that should match the email address of a Mailigen list subscriber.

  6. Go over the advanced settings:
    • Select whether you want to delete subscribers from lists or mark them as inactive.
    • Select whether or not you want to send a subscriber a goodbye email.
    • Select whether or not you want list owners to receive unsubscribe notifications.
  7. Check the box by Unsubscribe Mailigen subscribers in the left panel. A green arrow appears, going from the BlueConic icon to the Mailigen icon.
  8. Optional: In the left panel, click Add goal and then Unsubscribe to create another Unsubscribe Mailigen subscribers goal.
  9. Click Save to store the configuration.

Privacy management

Connections can be added to Objectives, allowing for privacy management of the information that is being picked up. A connection will only process the profiles of visitors who have consented to at least one of the objectives that the connection is linked to.
