Searching for items in BlueConic

In BlueConic, the Search feature helps you easily find and navigate to items throughout BlueConic. You can use either the Global Search option or, if you still can't find what you are looking for, you can use the Advanced Search in order to narrow the number of results. You can navigate directly to an item from the search results. This saves you time by eliminating the normal navigation.

The Search field is always available for locating items in BlueConic. You'll find it in the upper right part of the BlueConic navigation bar:

You can search for all items in BlueConic. When you type a full or partial string in the Quick Search field, the matching results are shown in a drop-down list to a maximum of 20. For example:

To the left of the matching results, the item's type is shown. The "Top Hit" is the item that BlueConic deems the most relevant. To navigate to an item, click it in the list.

In both the Quick Search and Advanced Search results, BlueConic assigns a unique icon to each BlueConic item type that appears next to the name of the content item in the search results. This lets you easily scan the search results to quickly find the item/item type you're looking for.

Using Advanced Search in BlueConic

Using the Advanced Search, you can search for items in BlueConic using a wide variety of filters. For example, you can search for an item according to its type, its creation date, its status, or any combination of the available filters.

If what you are searching for does not appear in the Quick search results, you can click the "Advanced Search" option at the bottom of the results in order to perform an advanced search. You can also go directly to the Advanced Search by clicking the magnifying glass in the right part of the search field (when it is empty):

Using filters in search

In the left pane of the Advanced Search, the search filters are listed. Next to each filter, the number of items that currently match that filter are shown in parentheses:

To select a filter, expand the section and click the checkbox next to a filter. You can select multiple filters in order to narrow your search. For example, the following search shows the results for all dialogues that were modified in the last day:

To remove a filter from the search parameter, you can either deselect the checkbox next to it in the left pane or close it by clicking the "x" next to it at the top of the search results.

Permissions, edit rights, and search results

Permissions and edit rights are enforced when you search for items in BlueConic. For example, if you do not have permission to manage domains and channels, then these items will not appear in your search results. Items to which you do not have edit rights appear in the search results in gray and italics, but you still are able to navigate to them.

Sorting search results

The results of an advanced search can be sorted in the following ways.

Sort type Description
Relevance Results are sorted according to their relevance. The relevance of an item is determined using an algorithm that produces a score. The higher the score, the more relevant the item is determined to be. Items that have a newer last modified date are considered more relevant than older items. Items that contain keywords in their titles are considered more relevant than items that do not, and so forth.
Name (A-Z) Items are sorted from A to Z according to their name.
Name (Z-A) Items are sorted from Z to A according to their name.
Last modified date (recent first) Items are sorted by the date they were last modified with the most recent date appearing at the top of the list.
Last modified date (recent last) Items are sorted by the date they were last modified with the oldest appearing at the top of the list.
Creation date (recent first) Items are sorted by the date they were created with the most recent date appearing at the top of the list.
Creation date (recent last) Items are sorted by the date they were created with the oldest appearing at the top of the list.

Toggling between views

The search results can be shown in different views. The following views are available:

View Description
List view The results are shown in a table sorted according to the currently selected filter(s). The table contains the following columns: "Name", "Type", "Last modified" and "Creation date".
Thumb view The results are shown using small icons representing the item types along with a short summary. Dialogue images and domain logos are used if available.
Grid view The results are shown using large icons representing the item types along with their names. Dialogue images and domain logos are used if available.

 


Advanced Search filters

Each Advanced Search filter is described in the following sections. All results appear in the main Advanced Search pane. In the results pane, you can use the Select all checkbox to select all items in the list (up to 40 items) at once.

Note: The filter "Type" is always available. The other filters may or may not be available depending on their relevance to the current search. For example, if you are searching within the "Channel" filter, then irrelevant filters such as "Status" or "Profile Property" will not be visible.

Type

To search for an item according to its type, expand the "Type" section and select the checkbox next to the item type(s). In parentheses next to each item type, the total number of items that match that item type is shown. Click the "Show More" to show all item types and "Show Less" to show the first ten item types sorted in order from the one with the most matches to the one with the least.

Labels

To search for an item based on the label that is attached to it, expand the "Labels" section and select the checkbox next to the label(s). In parentheses next to each label, the total number of items that match that label is shown. For more information on the use of labels, see "Labels".

Last modified

To search for an item based on the date it was last modified, expand the "Last Modified" section. You can choose from the following:

Time period Description
Last day Items that have been modified in the last 24 hours.
Last week Items that have been modified in the 7 days.
Last 30 days Items that have been modified in the last 30 days.
Period Select a start and end date range within which to search.

Used for: Channels, dialogues, domains, positions, segments, variants, profile properties, listeners, external trackers.

Creation date

To search for an item based on the date it was created, expand the section. You can choose from the following:

Time period Description
Last day Items that have been modified in the last 24 hours.
Last week Items that have been modified in the last 7 days.
Last 30 days Items that have been modified in the 30 days.
Period Select a start and end date range within which to search.

Used for: Channels, dialogues, domains, listeners, external trackers, positions, segments and variants.

Last modified by

To search for items last modified by a particular user, expand the "Last Modified By" section. Select the checkbox next to the user or users you want to search on.

Status

To search for interactions and variants based on their status, expand the "Status" section. Select the checkbox next to the status against which you want to search. The available statuses are "Active" and "Inactive".

Edit rights

To search for an item based on the domain to which a user must belong in order to be allowed to edit it, expand the "Edit Rights" section. Select the checkbox next to the domain(s) against which you want to search.

Used for: Dialogues, external trackers, listeners, segments and variants.

Property

To search for items that use a profile property, expand the "Profile Property" section. Select the profile property or properties from the list. The result(s) can include:

  • Segment — The profile property is used in a filter.
  • Dialogue — The dialogue uses a segment that uses the profile property in a filter.
  • Variant — The optimizer uses a segment that uses the profile property in a filter.

Used for: Plugins, connections, dialogues, listeners, external trackers, segments, and variants.

Plugin

To search for interactions and variants that use a specific plugin, expand the "Plugin" section. Select the plugin(s) you want to search for. Plugins of type "parameter" are not included in this search filter.

Start date

To search for an item based on the date it becomes active, expand the section. You can choose from the following:

Time period Description
Last day Items that have been modified in the last 24 hours.
Last week Items that have been modified in the last 7 days.

Used for: Dialogues.

To search for an item based on the date it becomes inactive, expand the section. You can choose from the following:

Last day Items that have been modified in the last 24 hours.

Used for: Dialogues.

To search for dialogues that are using a specified channel or channels, expand the "Channel" section. Select one or more channels.

Used for: Dialogues, listeners and external trackers.

To search for dialogues using a specific channel position or positions, expand the "Position" section. Select the position or positions.

Used for: Dialogues and variants.

To search for channels in a specific domain, expand the "Domains" section. Select the domain or domains.

To search for an audience, expand the "Audience" section. Select one or more audience ("All visitors", "Existing segment", or "Custom segment").

To search for profile properties in a specific category, expand the "Category" section. Select the categories.

Favorites

To search for items that you favorited, expand the "Favorites" section and select "My Favorites".
