Tracking the origin of profiles in BlueConic

When profiles are created or imported, BlueConic registers details about how your customers first arrived. You can use the new Profile Origin insight to visualize your profile origins by segment.

Having visibility into where your customers originate can help you discover where your highest-value customers came from originally—over the web (mobile or desktop), via an app, or through connections.

See Profile Origin Insight to learn more.

How to track customer origins and increase your customer recognition ratio with BlueConic

Three new profile properties for tracking customer origins

Customers' origins are stored in three new Origin of profile properties. These three properties store origin data in three levels of increasing granularity (from type to source to detail level). For example, if a customer first arrived at your site via the web these values might be: web (type), hostname (source), and URL (detail).

See Profile origins for details.

New "First stored value" profile merge strategy

We've added a new profile merge strategy called "First value stored." If two profiles are being merged and they both have values for a profile property that uses the "First stored value" merge strategy, BlueConic examines the timestamp for the two values and uses the oldest one. By default, the following profile properties use the "First stored value" merge strategy: "Origin of profile" (level 1, level 2, and level 3),  "First visit," and "Entry page." See Profile merging for details on configuring or customizing your profile merge strategy.

Profile Property Insight redesign

The Profile Property insight has a new visual design as well as improvements to the ways you can visual segments and profiles. New options include an array of color choices for the horizontal and vertical bar charts. The interactive pie chart shows details on each portion of the segment displayed in the insight.

Creating profile properties on the fly

When you create new profile properties in listeners, or map data between external systems and BlueConic in connections, you can create new profile properties on the fly. This makes it faster and more convenient to create new profile properties while configuring either a listener or a connection.

For connections, the new profile properties are created when you save the connection. For listeners, the newly created profile properties are created as the data type "text", except where the listener knows which type to create (for example, in timespan or time-based listeners).

Our new Shopify connection lets you import data from Shopify to BlueConic, so you can re-engage customers who have abandoned shopping carts or left your site before completing their purchases. Use this new connection to share first-party customer data from Shopify to your BlueConic profiles to better re-target customers. For details, see Shopify Connection.
