Combined Timeline event and profile export data processor

In select BlueConic connections, you can use the Combined Timeline and Profile Export data processor to export profile and timeline event data into a combined file. Each timeline event will be exported as a separate line along with the profile data that is configured for export. The data processor can also perform advanced filtering on the timeline events in order to control more granularly which events get exported.

Adding this data processor to your tenant

By default, this plugin is not installed in BlueConic. To install, navigate to BlueConic settings > Plugins, click the Add plugin button at the top right, and register the external URL below.

Adding this data processor to a connection

All connections that support data processors have a step on its export goal page to add data processors (e.g., "Modify your data before the export"). In that step, use the search box to add "Combined Timeline and Profile Export"; once added, it appears in a numbered list of data processors activated for that connection.

Configuring this data processor

The Combined Timeline and Profile Export data processor requires some configuration to ensure that BlueConic exports the data as specified. To make these configurations, click the cogwheel icon next to "Combined Timeline and Profile Export" in the numbered list of data processors. This opens a window with the following settings:

  • Event types: Select the event types that you want to include in the export.
  • Filter rules: Define filtering rules based on timeline properties and their values.
  • Timeline period: Set the date period to use for exporting the timeline events.
  • Advanced settings (optional)
    • Export new events only: When selected, only events created with an event date since the last successful export run be included in the export.
    • Export profiles without events: When selected, all profiles will be exported, including profiles that do not contain any matching timeline events.
  • Click OK to save your settings.

Note: When using this data processor, it is unnecessary to define any type of export Timeline events step. This functionality is replaced by the data processor itself.

Sample scenario for using this data processor

Several connections offer the ability to export timeline events, however, it might be the case that you want to export only one file containing the email address and the product names per event. Having it in one file might be a requirement from the external system. It also provides an easier way of not having to retrieve information from three different files. This is where you can use the “Combined Timeline and Profile Export” data processor.

Data Processor Setting Configuration
Event types Order
Filter rules (none)
Timeline period All time

By following the configuration above, the event types are selected in the data processor itself. This then exposes the event properties to be selected in the export mapping step (under the type “Processor value”).

This results in one CSV file. For each event, a line in the CSV is created with the product names (joined by a “;” character because this is the chosen multi-value separator), as seen in the following example:

"email","event_id","product_name"
"user83@blueconic.com","ORD_161","Summer Rally Jacket;Rhinestone Crystal Belt;I Miss NY Dress;Men’s Mocha Belt"
"user83@blueconic.com","ORD_160","Blast Sweat"
"user84@blueconic.com","ORD_162","I Miss NY Dress;Blast Sweat;Rhinestone Crystal Belt;Men’s Black Belt;Summer Rally Jacket"
"user84@blueconic.com","ORD_163","Rhinestone Crystal Belt;Bellfield Pasadena;Vanity Case;Men’s Blue Scarf;Men’s Blue Scarf"
