A BlueConic segment is a dynamic group of customers or visitors defined by attributes, behaviors, interests, and demographic, psychographic, or technographic properties. Segments update in real time, are multidimensional, and require no coding to set up or expand.
Users—both known and anonymous—can be segmented using simple or complex filters, enabling personalized engagement at the right moment. A single user can belong to multiple segments, such as "under 35 years old," "interested in football," "referred by social media," and "read December newsletter." By continuously updating profile data, BlueConic ensures that segmentation remains accurate and relevant for real-time customer interactions.

Types of segments
Behavioral segments: BlueConic automatically creates and updates behavioral segments based on customer interactions across sites and channels, using recency, frequency, intensity, and momentum. These real-time segments require no configuration and can enhance analytics and marketing campaigns.
Multidimensional customer segments: These are segments you can create by adding conditions, attributes, and filters. BlueConic updates segments in real time, ensuring they reflect the latest profile data. Customers move in and out of segments dynamically based on their properties, interests, and engagement.
Organize and manage segments
Select Segments from the navigation bar to view all existing segments.
Use the search box to filter all segments by keyword (e.g., "subscribers").
Apply filters to columns to sort segments based on attributes.

FAQs
What are the prebuilt behavioral segments in BlueConic and how can I use them?
Visitors from the past 7 days (based on the profile property: Recency)
Target customers who haven’t visited recently to re-engage them.
Highly frequent visitors (based on the profile property: Frequency)
Engage loyal visitors with deeper content or exclude them from repeated messaging.
Visitors with a high intensity (based on the profile property: Intensity)
Combine with content or product interests to engage high-value customers.
Recently very active visitors (based on the profile property: Recent intensity)
Focus lead generation on highly engaged visitors who haven’t shared their email.
Visitors with high momentum (based on the profile property: Momentum)
Target customers whose activity is increasing to drive conversions.
Visitors with low momentum (based on the profile property: Momentum)
Improve re-engagement efforts by targeting inactive or declining users.
Can I edit the prebuilt behavioral segments?
Use prebuilt behavioral segments as a foundation for your marketing campaigns by adjusting their score ranges to fit your needs. To modify a segment:
Select a behavioral segment by clicking its name.
View and edit the score range for frequency, intensity, activity, or momentum.
Example: The default high intensity segment includes profiles with a minimum score of 85 out of 100. Lowering this value adds more profiles.
Click Save As to create a new custom segment with your adjusted thresholds.
This allows you to fine-tune segmentation for more precise targeting.
How is data loaded when building segments?
To provide the most optimal experience with segmentation—especially if your segments are data-intensive—BlueConic uses a variety of mechanisms to load the available data quickly and accurately on Segment condition pages, including:
Non-blocking loading indicators: Large dataset filters display a loading icon but don’t block configuration or saving.
Delayed load triggering: OR-blocks and segment profile counts update after two seconds of inactivity to reduce redundant calculations.
Progressive loading: Properties with many values load in blocks of 40 for better performance.
Value limits: Up to 1,000 values per property; a message appears when the limit is reached.
Hidden profile counts: Toggle "View profile counts" to speed up data retrieval by hiding counts. A reminder appears if loading takes over three seconds.
Loading configured values: Previously selected values load first when revisiting a segment.
Skeleton graphs: Graph-based properties show a loading indicator, but conditions remain configurable.
